Well it’s the start of week 2 and we have a great day ahead. The ‘Tree of Knowledge’ visited us today and local MSP Jackie Bailey popped in to see what we were doing. We took part in an ultimate frisbee tournament and made healthy burgers in home economics. We got to take the recipe home so we could show our parents how to make them.

The end of our first week and we’ve got another packed day ahead. 60 of us set off by train to Balloch Castle where we took part in teambuilding and problem solving activities, archery and orienteering. It was cold but we all really enjoyed it. Those of us who stayed in school had just as busy a day designing more healthy plates, shooting our adverts, measuring our pulse in maths and learning about relationships. The final three groups also went to World of Golf where we were complimented on our behaviour. We were very proud of ourselves. A great end to a great week.

Tuesday 18th November

We had a really busy day today. We went for a walk to Dumbarton Castle, climbing 365 steps, and learned about it’s importance in Scottish history. We took part in a dance class and raced each other on rowing machines. After all that exercise we might be a bit sore tomorrow – our teachers certainly will be. We learned the importance of financial health and about the power that exists in personal relationships.

Monday 17th November

The day got off to a great start when Jim Chapman, manager of Dumbarton FC, came in to talk to us. We took part in loads of great activities today. We measured our pulse rate and drew bar graphs in maths and tasted a variety of fruits and learned their French names. Some of us designed healthy plates based around fruit and vegetables and others started to write scripts for the adverts we will be filming later in the week. We took part in fitness tests to see how fit we already are and some of us went to World of Golf to practise our swing on the driving range.

Here are some pictures of our first day:
